David Nutt shows how policies underpinned by science can have a transformative affect on society. He shows the impact this has had in other countries where they have adopted a radical approach to drugs legislation and how criminalisation in the UK has had a detrimental impact as it continues to force more harmful drugs onto the black market.

David Nutt FRCP, FRCPsych, FMedSci, is a psychiatrist at Imperial College London.
He trained at Cambridge, Guys Hospital, Oxford University and NIH in the USA. His research focuses on the use of PET and FMRI imaging to understand how drugs work in the brain and the mechanisms underpinning psychiatric disorders, particularly addiction and depression. He has published over 1000 research papers, 35 books and 8 government reports. He won the John Maddox prize for standing up for science in 2013.
